Symposium 19:TB in Elder and Children
Elders and children are the high-risk groups of tuberculosis infection that are underrepresented in most clinical trials and, as a result, leads to limited evidence in guideline development. Both elders and children have unique pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and face different diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, compared to adult tuberculosis patients. To achieve the END TB targets set by WHO and hampered by COVID pandemic, more efforts should be made to improve programmatic management of these two vulnerable groups –– from case finding to treatment provision that is tailored to local TB epidemiology, resources and patients’ needs. This symposium aims to highlight some of the practical issues encountered by elders and children with TB, as well as health care workers, to expand programmatic capacity and quality of care for those who are too often neglected.
