Symposium 14:TB & Comorbidity (DM/Malnutrition/ESRD…) (focusing on implantation in primary care)
TB is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Comorbidities, particularly non-communicable diseases including DM, ESRD, malnutrition, tobacco smoking and chronic lung disease, render the TB management more complex. Several studies suggested that the presence of comorbidities in TB patients is associated with unfavorable treatment outcomes. Therefore, the coexistence of certain non-communicable diseases with TB represents major health challenges, requiring a focus on multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated strategies. This symposium will bring health professionals to discuss and promote activities on TB and comorbidities related to prevention, screening, diagnosis and management as part of an integrated, people-centred package of health care for those affected or at risk.
